Helping the homeless is within Region’s grasp

Homelessness can be solved — now.

The number of homeless people in the region has nearly tripled over the past three years. The costs in 2016 dollars for a person in the Housing First program, in which they receive a rent supplement and intensive community support, is $22,000. It would cost the Region of Waterloo $11 million to provide Housing First for 500 people. That would decrease homelessness substantially.
