Using alcohol during COVID-19: What older adults need to know

Alcohol is the most common drug used and misused among older adults (65+).  A recent poll showed that 1 in 10 Canadians who are 55 and older are drinking more alcohol during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people have turned to alcohol to cope with the stress, loneliness in isolation and the uncertainty caused by the pandemic. Some older adults may also drink to deal with the loss of a loved one or of their daily routine.However, drinking can be harmful and it’s important to be aware of the facts.
